Hub Comics welcomes Svetlana Chmakova for a lively conversation to celebrate the publication of her newest graphic novel! The Weirn Books, Vol. 2: The Ghost and the Stolen Dragon takes readers back to this supernatural world full of magic, adventure, and… dragons!
Chmakova is an acclaimed creator in the middle grade graphic novel space, and her most recent graphic novel, Enemies (released September 2022), was a top seller. Born and raised in Russia until the age of 16, when her family emigrated to Canada, she quickly made a name for herself with acclaimed and award-winning works. She graduated from Sheridan College with a three-year Classical Animation Diploma, and was a Master Comics Artist-in-Residence at Atlantic Center for The Arts.
In addition to spotlighting the new volume of The Weirn Books series, we’ll also have Chmakova’s other works — all four books in the popular Berrybrook Middle School series, Nightschool 1 and 2 (which like The Weirn Books makes use of the Night Realm!), and of course The Weirn Books, Vol. 1
Come to Hub Comics at 19 Bow Street in Union Square, Somerville, Massachusetts — we’re three blocks from the MBTA D Line Union Station, down the hill from the E Line’s Gilman Square Station, on the 85 and 87 bus lines, and near the 86, 91, and CT2 buses. Street and metered parking is available near the shop!
Svetlana Chmakova in Conversation starts at 5pm on Saturday, November 2nd. Seating is limited and is first-come, first-serve.
